CAF OPENS INVESTIGATION INTO ALGERIA ALTERCATION

CAF has officially opened an investigation into incidents from the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals involving Cameroon vs Morocco and Algeria vs Nigeria.

‎CAF has officially launched disciplinary investigations into incidents from two AFCON 2025 quarter-final matches: Cameroon vs Morocco and Algeria vs Nigeria. This was confirmed in an official press release by the Confederation of African Football.

What CAF Is Investigating

‎ Cameroon vs Morocco (Quarter-final)
‎CAF noted “potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials” during the match between Cameroon and hosts Morocco, and has referred the matter to its Disciplinary Board for further review. The probe will examine match reports, video evidence, and any breaches of CAF competition regulations related to conduct on the pitch or toward officials.

‎ Algeria vs Nigeria (Quarter-final)
‎Separately, CAF opened an investigation into the aftermath of the Algeria–Nigeria quarter-final in Marrakesh. Reports indicate that after Nigeria’s 2–0 win, several members of the Algerian team and technical staff confronted match officials, pursued them toward the tunnel, and various confrontations also involved media personnel. CAF described the behaviour as unacceptable and a violation of disciplinary statutes.

‎ What Happens Next
‎CAF’s Disciplinary Board will review all evidence, including match reports, referee submissions, and video footage.

‎If violations are confirmed, sanctions could include fines, suspensions, or other disciplinary measures against players, officials, or federations involved.

‎These investigations come amid broader tensions at AFCON 2025, with other disputes over refereeing and post-match conduct drawing attention in various matches.
