Young
Africans SC and Azam FC Set for NMB Mapinduzi Cup 2026 Final Showdown
Tanzania Premier League heavyweights Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) and Azam Football Club will meet in the final of the NMB Mapinduzi Cup 2026, scheduled for January 13, 2026, at Gombani Stadium in Pemba,
Zanzibar.
The high-profile final will be officiated in the
presence of the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the
Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, underscoring the
significance of the tournament in the country’s football calendar.
Azam FC secured their place in the final after
defeating arch-rivals Simba SC
1–0 in a fiercely contested semi-final played on Thursday.
On the other hand, Young Africans SC advanced after edging Singida Black Stars FC by the same scoreline in their
semi-final encounter on Friday at
the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
Historically, Azam
FC are the most successful club in the competition, having
lifted the Mapinduzi Cup a record five times.
Simba SC follow with three titles, while Young
Africans SC, Mtibwa Sugar FC,
and Mlandege FC have each won the trophy
twice.
The NMB Mapinduzi Cup,
organized by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar
in partnership with the Zanzibar Football
Federation (ZFF), featured 10
teams in this year’s edition, including invited side Uganda Revenue Authority FC.
The final is expected to attract massive interest as two of Tanzania’s top clubs battle for early-season silverware in one of East Africa’s most prestigious invitational tournaments.
