CAF named Samson Adam As New Secretary General

Samson Adamu has been named as the Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), replacing Veron Mosengo-Omba who resigned earlier today. Here are some key facts about the appointment:

New Beginning: Adamu becomes the first Nigerian to hold the position since the inception of CAF over 70 years ago.

Distinguished Experience: Prior to this appointment, he was CAF’s Director of Competitions and Events, overseeing the preparation of major tournaments such as the AFCON and the African Champions League.

Appointment Process: His name was recommended by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by the General Assembly (Congress) today, March 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

He takes office amid high tensions over CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title and award it to Morocco, a saga that is still in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
