AFCON 2025: SEMIFINALS GAME HIGHLIGHT



The AFCON 2025 semifinals, set for today, Wednesday, January 14, will feature two high-stakes encounters with a wealth of individual brilliance on display. The fixtures pit two historic rivalries against each other, with the winner of each securing a spot in the final on January 18 in Rabat.

Senegal vs. Egypt  01.

This clash in Tangier is a rematch of the AFCON 2021 final, which Senegal won on penalties. The narrative is dominated by the reunion of former Liverpool teammates and African Player of the Year winners, Sadio Mané (Senegal) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt).

Senegal: The 2021 champions have shown composure and defensive strength throughout the tournament, aiming for another continental title.

Egypt: The record seven-time champions are looking to end a 16-year title drought. They eliminated defending champions Ivory Coast in a thrilling quarterfinal. Salah has been central to their dramatic run, with four goals to his name. 

 

Morocco vs. Nigeria  02.

The host nation, Morocco, will play Nigeria in Rabat in front of a fervent home crowd. This match features two of the most potent attacks in the tournament and several top individual talents. 

Morocco: The hosts are seeking their first AFCON title since 1976. Real Madrid forward Brahim Díaz has been the tournament's standout scorer, finding the net in every game he has played and leading the Golden Boot race with five goals.

 

Nigeria: The Super Eagles boast the tournament's most prolific attack, with 14 goals so far. Their charge is powered by the lethal partnership of Victor Osimhen (four goals) and Ademola Lookman (three goals and a tournament-leading four assists). Nigeria has looked dominant and will be a stern test for the host nation.
