The Gabonese government has announced the official suspension of the Gabonese National Football Team following what it described as a deplorable and disrespectful performance by the team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
In a statement issued on January 1, 2026 in Libreville, the government said it had decided to completely dismantle the team's technical bench and suspend the national team until further notice.
In addition, two veteran players of the team, Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, have been officially removed from the team for now.
The government has also called on the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) to take responsibility and take appropriate action against the situation that was seen as contrary to ethics and a good example to be emulated.
